Abstract
To evaluate the medical doctors¡¯ clinical satisfaction of PACS in daily practice at tertiary hospital with 1300 beds. Authors analyzed doctor s responses on questionnaires about PACS versus conven-tional screen-film system (SFS). Two hundred thirty five medical doctors (internists, 65; radiologists, 30; orthopedic surgeons, 28; general surgeons, 22; pediatricians, 18; gynecologists, 17; neurosur-geons, 17; neurologists, 13; others, 25) participated in this survey and recorded their opinions on a three-point scale (PACS > SFS; PACS = SFS; PACS < SFS). Items evaluated on a fill-up sheet in-cluded the followings: 1) image quality, 2) accessibility, 3) clinical utility, 4) convenience at out-pa-tients clinics, 5) utility in education, 6) utility in preparation of clinical papers, 7) image management, 8) convenience in consultation, and 9) overall preference. Regarding the overall preference, comparison of responses of radiologists and those of non-radiologists were made. The overall preference was al-so analyzed with regard to the doctor s experience as a PACS user (a. less than year, b. 1 - 2 years, c. more than 3 years). Sixty-one percent of doctors preferred PACS on image quality; 90 %, on acces-sibility; 81 %, on clinical utility; 76 %, on convenience at out-patients clinics; 71 %, on utility in educa-tion; 72 %, on utility in preparation of clinical papers; 97 %, on image management; 91 %, on conve-nience in consultation; and 88 %, on overall preference. Regarding the overall preference, there was no statistically significant difference between the radiologists (90 %) and non radiologists (87 %). Overall preferences were 79 %, 84 %, and 96 % for the doctors who have been using PACS less than 1 year, 1 - 2 years, and more than 2 years, respectively. PACS is well accepted by medical doctors as a satisfactory altemative to conventional SFS. The more experienced doctors are in PACS, the more they preferred PACS.
